About Unfilms

Unfilms is short for Unconventional Films, a motion picture production company that specializes in genre movies,  TV and new media.  Some of their projects include the soon to be released boxing movie, Chamaco, starring Martin Sheen, Kirk Harris, Alex Perea, and  Michael Madsen, as well as a pair of new media projects; the comedy web series, The Crusader, starring Stargate SG-1′s Colin Cunningham and the new horror/sci-fi web series, Universal Dead, starring DB Sweeney (The Cutting Edge, Fire in the Sky), Gary Graham (Star Trek: Enterprise, TV’s Alien Nation), sci-fi fan favorite Doug Jones (Hell Boy, Hell Boy II, Pan’s Labyrinth) and Cade Courtley, the host of Spike TV’s Surviving Disaster.

Officially founded in 2003, Unconventional Films’ three owners come form different and unique walks of life which influences their productions in very interesting ways. The owners are;

Neil Trusso is a former US Navy SEAL who deployed to hot-spots all over the world.  After serving his entire Navy career at SEAL Team 3, Neil decided to leave the military and try some new challenges.  Neil enrolled at Chapman University and played lacrosse for their WCLL championship team as well as their NCAA Division III football team. While attending Chapman, Neil earned a BFA in Film Production form their highly regarded, Dodge College of Media Arts.

Vernon Mortensen, the son of Christian missionaries, has traveled all over the world.  He is a retired US Navy SWCC (10 years active duty & 10 years reserves) who met his business partner, Neil Trusso, when they deployed together to the war-torn African nation of Somalia in 1994.  After active duty, Vernon entered the reserves and attended film school at the Art Center College of Design and later earned a Master’s Degree in Screenwriting form USC’s prestigious Professional Writing Program.

Kelly Parks is the world’s only Ex-CIA/Rocket Scientist/Stand-up Comic/Screenwriter!  That’s right, after studying Engineering Physics at ASU, he became an annalist at The Agency’s Space System’s Division, followed by a stint in the private sector as an Orbital Mechanics specialist. Never wanting to fall into a rut, Kelly changed careers again and actually made a living as a stand-up comic for five years. Now he writes screenplays for a living including the Unfilms’ new comedy web series, The Crusader.

Unconventional Films will use this blog to communicate with fans and interested parties and plans to discuss in great detail the trials and successes they face each day.  We hope you enjoy it!
